This remake will keep the existing structure, but add new elements themed to the superhero family of characters from the popular Incredibles movie, which has a sequel coming out in summer 2018.

California Screamin’ was built from steel and opened with the new park in 2001. It was designed to resemble an old-fashioned wooden coaster from pleasure piers of the 1920s. It has more than 1 mile of track, and takes riders from 0 to 55 mph in only four seconds.

“The Screamin’ had no real theme, so adding a property that people know should be popular,” said Dusty Sage, who runs the MiceChat fan blog. “It was a popular coaster before, and it should continue to be. I don’t really see a downside to it.”

The latest details from the notoriously tight-lipped Disney folks are that the Incredicoaster will offer a “high speed new experience featuring characters from ‘The Incredibles.'”

The Incredible Parr family, a humorous collection of superheroes, each with special gifts, will race alongside guests during the attraction, trying to catch their baby Jack-Jack.

The coaster’s existing tunnels will be fully enclosed, and the character of Mrs. Incredible, also known as Elastigirl, will stretch inside, over the heads of coaster riders, trying to catch her baby.

The new loading area for the ride will be a soaring glass mid-century-modern building inspired by the Parr family home in the movie. Music will be provided that hypes the new “Incredibles 2” movie slated to open July 14.

Disney is shutting down and making over most of the Paradise Pier district of the park starting on Jan. 8, and changing the theming to reflect its stable of Pixar characters, including the emotions from the movie “Inside Out.” The only part of the existing pier that’s staying is Toy Story Midway Mania, which is already themed to a Pixar property.

Completion of the makeover is expected by early summer, perhaps timed to release of the “Incredibles” sequel.

Disney spent billions to buy Pixar Animation Studios and the rights to the Marvel Comics brand, which gives the company a treasure trove of popular characters to add to its already substantial portfolio. Pixar properties include “Toy Story,” Finding Nemo” and “The Incredibles,” while Marvel’s stable of superheros include Spiderman, Iron Man, Captain America and the Avengers.

More plans are afoot to use the characters throughout the coming years.
